You know the volume of your pond, and the flow of your culvert if you open the valve.
With a simple quadratic equation, you can get a timeline on how soon your pond will be empty. If you don't know algebra, you're **** out of luck. Unless your brother in law understands algebra, and you don't mind proving to him yet again that you're uneducated in basic math.
